Our school farm journey started in Autumn 2023 as we developed ideas with pupils. The concept behind it all began with a group of learners developing their literacy skills through 'Little Red Hen', a staff member brought their hens in for the day and we also had a zoom call with Farmer Henry who told us all about his beef farm...why not embed agriculture into our learning experiences??....

Since then we have visited an amazing educational farm in Wrexham, Agri-cation. This visit considerably spurred on our learners' interest in farming, conservation and biodiversity. We have since developed a curriculum rationale specifically for 'Fferm Y Ferry' including national support links with charities and organisations such as SFG and the NFU. 

Our learners have developed a better understanding and awareness of farming, agriculture, biodiversity and how to work in these fields through sustainable approaches. We are eager for our learners to develop entrepreneurial and enterprising experiences, pupils sell the hens eggs to our community each week with all proceeds going back to supporting the hens.  

During this academic year we have focussed on developing our rescue farm hens in their area and our school community garden. Three hens have joined us so far, with our eager farmers using their own time to care for the hens, develop the area and add to other projects.

In the coming months we've many egg-citing plans ahead!
