Curriculum for Wales / Cwricwlwm i Gymru

Curriculum for Wales

As a school we have been working hard to design our own curriculum based on the new curriculum for Wales guidance which was published in January 2020. We have worked with key stakeholders including our children, our families, our governors and our local schools.

The Four Purposes

The purpose of the every school’s curriculum will be to support our children and young people to be:

  • ambitious, capable learners, ready to learn throughout their lives
  • enterprising, creative contributors, ready to play a full part in life and work
  • ethical, informed citizens of Wales and the world
  • healthy, confident individuals, ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society

Our Vision

Fundamentally, as a school, we believe in learning. Our educational philosophy is one of 'Learning Powers' and 'Growth Mindset.' Through our motto ‘Working Together We Shall All Succeed’ our collective vision is that Saltney Ferry Learners are

  • fit for the future
  • enjoy success
  • compassionate
  • inclusive
  • leaders

What matters at Saltney Ferry?

  • We need to design a curriculum with the 4 purposes at the heart of what we do.
  • We need to design a curriculum that is fit for the future.
  • A curriculum that is meaningful for the children at Saltney Ferry.
  • A curriculum that covers issues that are important in our local area, Wales and the wider world.
  • A curriculum that enables our children to thrive in an ever changing modern society.
  • Our curriculum will have structure but also be flexible enough for staff and pupils to guide the learning.
  • Our curriculum will have themes that would allow for progression through depth of knowledge and skills.
  • Our curriculum will ensure that opportunities for the mandatory requirements such as RSE and RVE are included.
